About

This is me…

Bob82 in a Blue T Shirt

I’m a 29 year old guy with a day job, that enjoys writing and talking about Cardinal baseball. Have been a fan for as long as I can remember. I recently was privileged to be asked to be a part of United Cardinals Bloggers, and will be contributing for them on a regular basis. I will also be contributing to podcasts from time to time, and will post them on this site.

Why Birds on the Bat 82?

A couple of reasons…..birdsonthebat.com was taken and left me searching for other twitter handles and domain for blog.

I’m glad it was already taken, because it helped me to arrive at “Birdsonthebat82″. 1982 was the year I was born, and it was also the year of the Cardinals 9th world series championship. In 1982,  the “Whiteyball” era of  Cardinals baseball was getting into full swing. It’s the style of baseball that I grew up with, but it was also a culture that all of Missouri embraced, and a big part of my childhood. It was more than a way to play the game, but a continuation of the rich Cardinals history, and the “Cardinal Way”.

What will you find on this site?

There are a variety of things I enjoy to write about and you will find here: In-season articles on the cardinals, articles on the minor league Cardinals teams (aka baby birds), and a recommended reading list. I don’t see many other sports bloggers writing reviews on books they are reading, and this is a feature I really want to highlight on this site.

I am convinced, there is no better fan base in all of sports than Cardinal Nation! Hopefully this site will serve as a meaningful contribution to that community. Hope you will come back often and be a part of www.birdsonthebat82.com
